Enter the Co-op, turn right and proceed to the stairs down. * * * * * About Mel Shannon: March 22, 1927 - born on a farm near Harris, Saskatchewan. 1947 - graduated with a B.A., U of S. 1949 - graduated with an L.L.B., U of S. 1950 - admitted to The Law Society of Alberta. 1953 - 1954 - alderman City of Calgary. 1958 - Federal liberal candidate in Calgary South - defeated. 1968 - 1973 - Bencher of The Law Society of Alberta. 1973 - President of The Law Society of Alberta. 1973 - Appointed judge of The Trial Division of The Supreme Court of Alberta. 1979 - that court merged with the District Court of Alberta to become The Court of Queen's Bench. 2000 - retired. Mel was married for 54 years; his wife died in 2008. He is the father of 6 children and has 14 grand-children. He is also a SHIC member.

May 11	MAY MEETING and ELECTION OF OFFICERS Time: 7:00-9:00 PM Location: Brentwood Co-op Community Room (Basement Level). The Co-op is located just north of Crowchild Trail at the Brentwood C-Train station in NW Calgary. Enter the Co-op, turn right and proceed to the stairs down. * * * * * About Election of Officers All officers will be elected. From our bylaws: "The Board shall consist of a President, a Secretary, a Treasurer, and up to four other Directors. The term of office is for one year. The President may serve no more than two consecutive terms as President." Therefore, A slate of candidates for these offices will be prepared based on expressions of interest received prior to May 11 and, additional nominees may be added on May 11 prior to voting. Voting shall be done by members in good standing and paid up regarding the specified dues. Election will take place at the May 11 meeting at approximately 8:00 PM. Members wishing to vote in the election or to serve as a candidate for election should contact our Treasurer at any time prior to the election.
